Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Friday, July 11, 2008 – With last year’s B Division champion Wayne Yap missing in action due to an injury sustained in the triple jump, the gold medal for the B Division Boys High Jump was up for grabs at the 49th Inter-school Track & Field Championships. Aaron Koh (#541) of Hwa Chong Institution, who was third last year, rose up to the challenge. Aaron jumped a height of 1.84m to his fellow athletes to the gold.

Daryl Lee Yi Rong (#191) of Guangyang Secondary was a close competitor. Matching Aaron’s jump height for height, he faltered at the 1.84m height and clipped the bar on this third attempt. With Wayne out of action, Daryl had been set on the gold. He came in ninth last year where he only managed a 1.65m when he fouled out on his second and third jump attempt. This year, he cleared a height of 1.82m to win the silver. He was nevertheless still very disappointed with his performance as judged by his expression after his jump.

Muhd Nasiruddin B Jumari (#16) of Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary took the bronze with a jump height of 1.79m. He came in eight last year, clearing 5cm higher than Daryl.

Aaron was clearly trying to clear a higher height. Much to the groans of his supporters sitting in the grandstand, he unfortunately crashed into the bar on his three attempts. However, he had already done enough to win gold.
